Privacy Policy
Last updated: 9 October 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Talk Rightly ("we", "us"), a business operating from India, handles personal data when you use talkrightly.com and the Talk Rightly Service. We act as the data controller (or "data fiduciary" under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023). Please read it with our Terms of Use.
1. Data we collect
- Account data: email address, the name you enter, your career level, and sign-in details from Google if you choose Google sign-in (name, email, profile image).
- Practice data: drill history, scores, pillar results, streaks and credit usage.
- Billing data: plan, credit balance, and payment and subscription identifiers from Dodo Payments. Card details are handled by Dodo Payments and never reach us.
- Technical data: browser type, device information, IP address and error logs needed to run and secure the Service.
2. Camera, microphone and recordings
- Your camera and microphone are used only while you rehearse, and only after you grant browser permission.
- Video and audio recordings stay in your browser for the playback on your scorecard. We do not upload, store, sell or use them to train AI models. They are discarded when you leave the drill.
- Audio signals such as pace, pauses and pitch movement are measured on your device. Only the resulting numbers and your transcript text are sent to our servers to calculate your score.
- Live transcription uses the speech recognition built into Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Your browser provider may process that audio under its own privacy terms.
- We never score or record your accent.
3. Why we use your data and our legal bases
- To provide the Service, your account, scoring and progress (performance of a contract).
- To process payments, prevent fraud and keep records required by tax law (contract and legal obligation).
- To send account emails such as sign-up confirmation and password resets (contract).
- To secure, maintain and improve the Service (legitimate interests).
- Where the law requires consent, including under India's DPDP Act, we rely on the consent you give when you sign up. You may withdraw it at any time; this will not affect processing already done.
We do not sell or rent your personal data. With your consent, we use marketing cookies to measure and personalise our own ads, as explained in section 8.
4. Who we share data with
- Dodo Payments, our payment processor and merchant of record.
- Cloud hosting and database providers that store account and practice data for us.
- Google, if you use Google sign-in.
- Email delivery providers that send account emails.
- Advertising partners such as Google and Meta, only if you accept marketing cookies.
- Authorities, when required by law or to protect rights and safety.
Our providers process data only on our instructions and under confidentiality and security obligations.
5. International transfers
We and our providers may process data in India, the United States, the European Union and other countries. Where data from the EU, EEA or UK is transferred, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or adequacy decisions.
6. Retention
We keep account and practice data while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise it within 30 days, except billing records we must keep for tax and accounting law (generally up to 8 years in India).
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you and receive a copy;
- correct inaccurate data or complete incomplete data;
- delete your data and close your account;
- restrict or object to certain processing, and receive data in a portable format (EU, UK);
- withdraw consent, nominate another person to exercise your rights, and seek grievance redressal (India);
- know what we collect and opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information; we do neither (California and other US states);
- complain to a data protection authority, including the Data Protection Board of India or your local EU or UK authority.
Email hello@talkrightly.com to use any of these rights. We respond within 30 days and will not treat you differently for using them.
8. Cookies, advertising and your choices
- Strictly necessary: cookies and browser storage that keep you signed in, secure the Service and remember your settings and cookie choices. These are always on.
- Analytics: help us understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it. Used only with your consent.
- Marketing: tags from advertising partners such as Google (Google Ads) and Meta (Facebook and Instagram) that measure ad performance, record conversions such as sign-ups and purchases, and show you Talk Rightly ads on other sites (remarketing). Used only with your consent.
Non-essential cookies load only after you choose "Accept all" or turn them on under "Manage preferences". You can change or withdraw your choice at any time through "Cookie Preferences" in the site footer. Where you consent to marketing cookies, Google and Meta may receive identifiers such as cookie IDs, device and browser data, IP address and the pages you visit, and process them under their own privacy policies. We never share your rehearsal recordings, transcripts or scores with ad partners. For California residents, this ad measurement may count as "sharing" for cross-context behavioural advertising; rejecting marketing cookies opts you out, and we honour Global Privacy Control signals.
9. Security
We use encryption in transit, access controls and row-level permissions so each account can reach only its own data. No system is perfectly secure; we will notify you and the relevant authorities of a personal data breach as required by law.
10. Children
The Service is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes
We will post updates on this page and, for material changes, notify you by email or in the app before they take effect.
12. Contact and grievance officer
For privacy questions, requests or complaints, contact our Grievance Officer at hello@talkrightly.com. This policy is governed by the laws of India, and disputes are subject to the courts at New Delhi, without limiting any rights you have under the mandatory data protection law of your country.
